School: Space Coast Fire Dragon

I have been studying and practicing Pai Lum since 1977 with Grand Master Fred Schmitz, who crossed over to the next plane during the opening ceremony of last years tournament, 2008. I inherited the responsibility for continuing his knowledge by passing it on to future generations.

The Fire Dragon School is located in Merritt Island, Florida.  It is an open aired venue.  Pai Lum is taught in the old ways and lives up to the teachings of Daniel K. Pai and Fred Schmitz.
See you all at the tourney!

School: Win-Win Kung Fu Center

Instructor: Hesheng Bao

I started practicing Chinese martial arts since I was very young in China. I believe, Kung Fu belongs to the world. Then, I taught some teachers from other countries Chinese martial arts in college in China. I continue my teaching to children around me in the United States since I move here. After so many years, I realized that Chinese martial arts in China had developed and the world should know it. We should so do something to make it happen.

This summer grandmaster Sheng Jichen from Anhui China and I co-founded a Chinese martial arts center in Pittsburgh named Win-Win Kung Fu Culture Center. Hopefully this center will meet all needs for Chinese martial arts because we teach tao lu both traditional and contemporary, san da and jue ji, I call it, Mixed Chinese Martial Arts.

Thanks to the successful organization of ICMAC 2009, our students have participated two of them, won some medals and have some fun.

This post was submitted by Hesheng Bao.

Andrew Calvo
Chinese Martial Arts Center (Panama)

I have been practicing martial arts and competing in tournaments since the age of five. I first trained Judo, tae kwon do, and hap ki do. At the age of 15 I began studying Kung Fu under Master Nick Scrima. After many years of training, I was given the opportunity to operate my own branch of the Chinese Martial Arts Center in Panama City, Panama. Since opening a few years ago I have been bringing a group of students to the ICMAC tournaments and judging. The ICMAC tournament is a world class championship, designed to develop great competitors and judges through sportsmanship and guidance. I am honored to be a part of the ICMAC Worldwide circuit. I recommend all athletes and masters become a member of this circuit to build friendships through martial arts.

School: World Martial Arts
Instructor: Jinheng Li

I began my martial arts training in 1995, in Northern Shaolin with Sifu Lai Hung, while attending college in Northern California. I began training with Master Jinheng Li in 2001 and became a black belt instructor in 2002. I teach Long Fist, Southern Fist and Internal Styles. My emphasis since 2003 has been on the internal arts of Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua. I have assisted in training tournament competitors from Master Li’s school, and as part of the World Tai Chi instructors workshop, in these forms. I have been to China twice with Master Li to train in Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua with several different masters. I am a World Tai Chi certified level 5 instructor and am certified in Touch for Health. My other interests include Chinese Language and Calligraphy, Weiqi and Lion Dance.

I am very proud to be a part of the ICMAC and am looking forward to this years events. It is great to get out and share your passion with so many others. I truly believe in “Friendship through Martial Arts”.

Sifu Slaughter
School: Sifu Slaughter’s Chinese Martial Arts

Hello everyone! I’ve been practicing Chinese Martial Arts since the early eighties. My students and I send our respect out to Master Scrima and everyone else that is working hard at making these events possible.

We are honored to be a part of these kung fu championships and look forward to supporting as many as possible.

I admire what the ICAMC and his associates are doing. Being someone that Master Scrima used to judge in the past, I have to say that my students are excited and proud to be a part of martial arts history.

We will spread the word about these events and the ICMAC Worldwide Circuit.
Best Regards to all.

Jessica Gianacakes
School: Chinese Martial Arts Center
Instructor: Master Scrima

I am a student of Master Nick Scrima and currently a blue belt at his private academy. I have competed in two international competitions in Orlando and took the title of Teen Girls Traditional Grand Champion in 2007. Last year I was unable to compete due to a neck injury after a car accident and I’m really nervous about competing again. I love the rush of performing and hope to put on a show at this year’s competition in May.

Best of luck to all competitors.

Phil Jarvis
School: Wushu Tae Kwon Do Institute (Canada)
Instructor: Sifu and Simo Sue

Hello everyone! I have been a student of Master Rick Sue for 4 years in Canada; at a great school called the the Wushu Tae Kwon Do Institute. I train there with very hard working teachers and students. When I am in the sunny state Florida, I train with Master Nick Scrima, whom I have also been following for the last 4 years.

In the next few years there are going to be amazing and very challenging Chinese martial art competitions here in the USA, Japan, Bahamas, Costa Rica, and in Europe that the ICMAC Worldwide Circuit will be putting together. I participated in the Orlando Kung Fu tournament the last 3 years and I attended the Las Vegas Chinese Martial Arts Championship last August.

I am going to work hard to advance my ranking so that some day I can open my own Kung Fu school up in Parry Sound which is my hometown in north-central Ontario.

Sifu David Carr
School:  Grandmaster Doc Fai-Wong’s International Plum Blossom Federation

I was born in 1952 and began studying boxing and wrestling at age 8. I studied a few karate styles while young and in 1973 while still in the Navy began studying with Grandmaster Doc Fai Wong. I have opened a number of studios over the years for our Federation teaching Choy Li Fut style Kung Fu and Yang family Tai Chi Chuan. Studios opened include the Twin Dragon Studios of Oklahoma, Golden Phoenix Foundation of Florida and a number of Tai Chi courses on different campuses throughout the Midwest and Florida.

I thoroughly enjoy studying the old ways as they are quickly becoming more and more vague. The past is our root to our art just as our strong stance is the root to our arts. I believe in keeping it real and staying away from politics. The old ones studied all their lives the ways of their old ones who studied all their lives. It makes me wonder sometime how a generation can choose to change the fundamentals of an art form that took thousands of years to attempt to perfect. It’s a shame because alot of what we wish to learn could be lost.

Anyway, I obviously have a passion for my art. As I’m sure you do if you’re reading anything on this site - it means you want more!  Me too!  Keep them cards and letters coming - ha.

Good luck to one and all in all your endeavors.
peace and strength -

Instructor: Sifu John Vanegas

I’m a 10 year old girl born in Wuxi, China and adopted as an infant to come to live in America!  I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li and have always wanted to do Kung Fu.  I started in Karate at 4 1/2 but quickly decided that Kung Fu was more fun because I liked the weapons and speed. I got my black belt when I was 8. I love all sports, especially swimming and soccer. I train six days a week and like to compete and perform.  Sifu John is the best Sifu ever and I have lots of fun at Shaolin Kung Fu Academy.  I like to help teach the little kids and help them with their forms.

Oh yeah - They call me “The Beast from the East!”

Eagle Claw Kung Fu Center

I have been a student of Grand Master Leung Shum for over 25 years. He has been my only teacher in both Ying Jow Pai (Ealge Claw) and Wu Tai Chi Chuan. I opened my school in Atlanta in 1999 and am currently celebrating the opening of my new and larger location!

I have been a regular supporter and judge of the International Chinese Martial Arts Championship since the very first tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida in March of 1998. This Kung Fu tournament has gotten bigger each year and I am excited to see the ICMAC Worldwide Circuit and rating system take shape.
